Karla Silva

Relationship, Family and Child Therapist
Post Grad Dip (Psych), BSSci (Psych/Marketing)

Karla has a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology and has worked in the helping industry for nearly 20 years, working across educational, community and private settings. Since 2010 she has consulted in her own private practice, counselling and running workshops/groups, but also in a school environment (foundation to Year 12) supporting children, parents and teachers since 2019.

Karla utilises an integration of therapy strategies (mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, interpersonal therapy and emotion focussed), along with an intuitive, compassionate and collaborative approach to counselling. Within her clinical counselling role she has assisted adults, couples and families around adjustment concerns, parenting support, relational issues, mental health, grief, loss and trauma.

Karla has a specific interest and passion for working with youth, parents, and families.  As a mother of 2 children, along with extensive experience, she has seen the importance of collaborating with families, and individuals, to understand and address relational dynamics, improve connection, and restore harmony.

Karla has a keen interest in helping couples; holding space and facilitating change through challenges, adjustment, conflict and learning new ways to communicate effectively and create the relationship that clients envisage.  Karla is especially understanding of the challenges that come with relationships, that also combine the role of parenting.

Alongside her family and couple work Karla is able to work with children and adolescents.  She believes creating a connection and safe space with the child will bring about positive change, along with providing tools to foster resilience, emotional allowance, problem solving skills and a healthy relationship with self and others.  Karla has also seen the impact of working collaboratively with parents, families, teachers and carers to provide support for the child in need.  Karla has worked extensively with helping children and adolescents with anxiety, self-esteem issues, school refusal, loss, friendship/family issues. She has also worked with kids with ADHD and Autism, directly assisting the needs of the child ‘as a whole.’
