Ali has been a registered psychologist since January 2017. She brings to DS Psychology Group significant experience working in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, in government agencies, and in community settings. In these roles, Ali has gained experience working with a range of mental health difficulties including personality disorders, anxiety disorders such as panic, social anxiety and OCD, depression and relationship concerns. She has experience providing a wide range of psychological services including organisational psychology and return to work support; and behavioural interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder. Further Ali has trained and worked across different countries and different states including New Zealand, Perth, and Sydney.
Over the course of her professional career thus far Ali has gained an interest in working with young adults including assisting with self-harm, low self-esteem and disordered eating, as well as adults presenting with adjustment issues, stress problems and interpersonal conflict, providing them with the specific skills required for achieving positive mental health outcomes for these age groups. Ali also has a particular interest in providing treatment services for complex mental health presentations (such as Borderline Personality Disorder), with a focus on helping people who are deeply affected by mental health issues to develop the skills for managing symptomatology effectively, and live a full and rewarding life.
During her Masters degree, Ali trained at the Princess Margaret Hospital Eating Disorders Program and worked at the Northside West Eating disorders program, providing psychological services for young people with eating disorders who had been admitted to hospital. Ali also has conducted research in the area of drug use and parenting; exploring the effect amphetamine use has on mothers, and has explored the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary government program designed to support children and their families to better manage a wide variety of presenting concerns including conduct problems, anxiety, mood difficulties and trauma.
Ali strives to empower clients to overcome the challenges or barriers they encounter, as they undergo their journey towards change. Whether a patient’s goals are focused on creating change, reducing symptoms, uncovering underlying causes behind behaviour, or simply going on an exploratory journey, Ali takes a collaborative approach to therapy where patients are encouraged and supported while achieving their therapeutic goals.
