BSC, Grad. Dip App. Psych
Julia has been registered as a psychologist since 1995 and since this time has worked in a range of roles and capacities in the profession. Early in her career she was employed at Goulburn Valley TAFE counselling and implementing programs for students and subsequently worked for Relationships Australia providing therapy for individuals, couples and their families. From 1999 Julia commenced work at the Department of Human Services and over a 10 year period had roles, which included providing training to disability services staff, developing and implementing programs for children with behaviour issues, providing counselling to families with diverse needs, and implementing programs to support the access and rights of people with a disability. In 2011 Julia returned to work in a clinical counselling role, the area of psychological practice about which she is most passionate. Since this time she has been employed in private practice, enjoying and working with a diversity of people dealing with depression, anxiety, identity and self-esteem, grief and loss and adjustment problems. She has significant experience in working with abuse trauma, and seeing clients under Work Cover and Victims of Crime. Julia also has a keen interest in helping clients who have lost a sense of identity and a sense of direction in their lives; in this way she brings her maturity and warmth to re-connecting clients with a sense of personal fulfilment.
Julia holds a deep belief in the capacity of all people to grow to realise their potential, and live fulfilled, meaningful lives. Having the opportunity to support others in this process through her work as a therapist is something which strongly motivates her, and which she greatly values. With a caring and empathetic approach, Julia strives to create a safe environment for people to explore the challenges confronting them. She utilises a number of psychological therapies to tailor her approach to suit the needs of each person, working alongside them to enhance awareness, strengthen well being and facilitate positive change.
